"Pleasant memories of mentors, colleagues, friends and acquaintances at the UI when I was there about twenty-six years ago always make me wish for ajourney back to the place that had such a terrific impact on my professional career. So when I received a note from Dick Kerber about the reunion on June 22-23, it filled me with immeasurable excitement. It did not matter that it was 16,128 miles round trip. It was an opportunity to return to the roots of my cardiovascular life, to network with friends I have long missed, and a chance to meet new colleagues.
I was awed by all the remarkable changes from the Cedar |
Rapids airport to downtown Iowa City and the University Hospital. The only things that have not changed are the friendliness and courteousness I found in the city and university.
The conference topics were excellent and it was ajoy listening to the experts whose treatises were well prepared, presented and discussed.
The Gala gave me the great opportunity to meet Chad Williams, reminisce about our days as CV fellows, and hobnob with Dick Kerber, Don Heistad and Allyn Mark. Unfortunately I missed l,ewjanuary, Frank Abboud, Don Brown and Phillip Schmid. It would have been more exhilarating if the other CV fellows I trained with had been there. But it was a pleasant
|
surprise to meet a former medicalstudent of mine at the University of the Philippines, Dr. Rufino Festin, who is currently training at UI.
I look forward to another reunion in the very near future. Next time I hope to see more of my former consultants and those with whom I trained. Here's a wish and a prayer for more power to the UI CV Division."

"It's a thrill to return to Iowa City and Ul. The educational program was superb, and the evening gala fantastic. The Cardiology Gala gave me a chance to renew comradeships with former teachers. It was certainly well worth the effort to attend the conference." |
