Sweet Grandma
By Allison Bopp

Grandma, sweet, sweet grandma
you're the one that guides me
the one who is there beside me!
You're words are filled with comfort,
when my heart is dying.
Your love is like a flower, full of beauty and so unique.
Your love is like the fragrance of a freshly blossomed rose
it spreads beautifully through our hearts and into the valleys below.
By summer, you're in full swing,
dancing and singing sweet songs to me,
filling my heart with words God speaks.
In the fall, unlike a flower,
you're still here, till the wee morning hours.
Low and behold, by winter,
you're still here under ice and snowmen,
still showing, still growing, still loving me.
And as you are hidden beneath the snow
your love keeps growing more than we'll ever know.
You plant your roots down through the ground,
deeper and deeper my love for you grows.
Where would I be without you?
This I'll never know.
But this I do know!
For you, there is no limit to
how far I can go.
You have shaped me through my years,
my morals and my goals.
Grandma, I'll never leave you!
In my heart you have a home!
You are my guardian angel
that I feel it in my soul.
When I go to you, you're my resting-place
of comfort my perfect home.
My love for you grows on and on
goes on and on, flows on and on.
My dear grandma,
sweet, sweet grandma.

{Editor's comment: Oh, it's so easy to see and hear the love in this poem! I watched several men read this poem and they fought tears in their eyes. Love overflows here and we take notice of a very special relationship. We know that grandma is gone now, but she lives forever in Allison's heart and shapes her future. I am sure from Heaven that Grandma can see the good choices that Allison makes. In Heaven, I believe we can see the good that our loved ones do on Earth. Congratulations Allison! Your written words have power. That's a gift. Use your talent well.}

A Kid's Room
By Kelsey

In a kid's room what'll you find,
Maybe a test from 1st grade,
Dirty laundry and video games
Or maybe a cookie that you made.

In a kid's room what'll you find,
A cleat from soccer perhaps,
15 pairs of socks laying on the floor,
Or maybe 20 maps.

In a kid's room what'll you find
Maybe a picture from when you were mad,
A pizza with everything that we ordered last month,
I was wondering what smelled so bad!

When spring cleaning comes along,
These kids will have some fun.
Maybe we can see the rug
And get rid of that 5 year old honey bun!

{Editorial comments: I thought that this was an interesting topic for a poem. The poem looks very balanced on the page with its four stanzas and four lines in each stanza. I get the feeling the author is in control of the poem. The images presented are powerful, and I like the strong ending with its twist of humor. It's a winner! Some poets are shy about sharing their last name for privacy reasons. If you read about Emily Dickinson and her poetry, you'll discover that she was an excellent poet, but shy about sharing her poems.}

Poets who deserve Honorable Mention for their interesting poems are:

Jamie Thomson for "Maturity"

Danny Vatter for "Things Tend to Unfold as They Should"
