I open my eyes to the black sky at night
When I see the stars
My heart just falls
This is not the sky of today
These are not the stars of tomorrow
Neither are they the stars of today
They are the stars of hundreds of years ago
Oh how so pretty they look right now
How I wonder how they'll look when the stars of today finally come
And sadly I will not get to see them
(Editorial comment: I like the ebb and flow of this poem, and the scientific logic. How can we possibly see stars that are not there? We can. Emily is smarter than years. Congratulations, Emily!)
