Redundant Text Link Example

Redundant Text Links for Image Maps

Below is an example of an image map containing links to the various parts of a web site. Even though each clickable region (a.k.a., "hotspots") of the image map contains an ALT attribute, text browsers such as Lynx will not recognize them - as well as some other "Internet appliances" such as web-enabled cell phones or PDAs.

In order to make the links usable by text browsers and other devices which won't acknowledge image map links, you will need to include redundant text links. People who have difficulty with fine motor control may also find these links more usable than the image map version.
